Hike Brazos Bend State Park

Selected as one of the best state parks in the U.S., Brazos Bend State Park is just a hop, skip and a jump down I-59 South. The hiking there is excellent with trails such as the 40-Acre Lake Loop Trail, Elm Lake Loop Trail, Hale Lake Loop Trail, Red Buckeye Trail, Whiteoak Trail, Bluestem Trail, and the Big Creek Loop Trail. With more than 22 miles of hiking trails, the park is one of the best in the area. The wildlife is awesome with multiple chances to spot alligators just feet away on the 40-Acre Lake Loop Trail. I recommend you keep young children by you at all times and dogs must be on a leash. Besides gators, the park is home to more than 290 species of birds and several varieties of snakes. The best way to learn about the trails is to head to the park and pick up a trail map. You can also find many trails in the book, “60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Houston”. Take a picnic lunch and eat under the beautiful trees after a long day hiking and exploring
