Historical Texas Trees at Mercer Arboretum

Historical Texas trees form a vital link to unique moments in Texas history, such as the Battle of the Alamo and the Great Storm of 1900. Laura Carlton, a Harris County Precinct 4 arborist, will give a presentation February 14 at the monthly Lunch Bunch from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. that outlines Mercer’s Historic and Champion Tree Project. Following the presentation, John Ross, an ISA-certified arborist, will give an interactive walking tour through the West Side Arboretum to teach basic tree identification. Attend this Lunch Bunch program to earn continuing education units from the International Society of Arboriculture, Harris County Master Gardeners, and Montgomery County Master Gardeners. Participants should bring a lunch and dress for the weather. Lunch Bunch is a free program offered at Mercer’s West Side Arboretum in the Cypress Pavilion that is recommended for participants ages 12 and older. To register or to receive additional information, call Mercer Botanic Gardens at 713-274-4160.
