Artist Boat adds Educational Programs

In an attempt to educate the oil and gas industry in the area on the habitat along the coast, Artist Boat is launching two new programs to get them out on the water. Below is a press release from Artist Boat.

Artist Boat was awarded funding from the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) to offer two unique programs to members of the oil and gas industry and their families. These two programs, the Watershed Education Training (WET) Program and the Stewardship Training Program, allow Artist Boat to provide kayak adventures, educational workshops, and habitat restoration events free of charge to oil and gas personnel and their families. These are fantastic opportunities for team building, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Best of all, these programs are free and flexible to meet the specific needs of any company. Below is more information on each program.

Our Watershed Education Training (WET) Program consists of a two-hour educational workshop on the ecology of the Galveston Bay system. Participants will develop a greater understanding of its importance, both ecologically and economically. This understanding will lead to a greater appreciation of estuaries and watersheds on a broader scale. Participants will then take part in a four-hour kayak adventure throughout a region of Galveston Bay. This excursion is meant to instill within the participants an understanding of the concepts and topics discussed during the workshop on a more personal level. This unique experiential adventure will expose members of the oil and gas industry to unique wildlife and beautiful habitats found right in their backyard.

Our Stewardship Training in the Coastal Zone Program consists of a two-hour educational workshop on the ecological and economic importance of dune habitats to coastal environments such as Galveston. Additionally, this program includes a restoration event where volunteers will help restore underplanted habitats. These restoration events will extend to a variety of ecosystems, including coastal prairies, salt marshes, and dunes. This program offers participants the unique opportunity to both visit these wonderful, local ecosystems and help restore them to their natural beauty.

We are currently looking for companies and organizations to partner with. If you are interested taking advantage of these free kayak trips, environmental education workshops, and habitat restoration events please contact Nathan Johnson, Habitat and Stewardship Program Manager at Artist Boat, at or at (409) 770-0722.
