Hike Big Creek Scenic Recreation Area

The Big Creek Loops consist of four short loops just inside the Big Creek Scenic Recreation Area that are part of the Lone Star Hiking Trail (a 128-mile trail north of Houston) . Access all four loops from Forest Service Road 217 off FM 2666. With a combined distance of 2.7 miles, these loops are easy to hike and ideal for beginning hikers or families with young children. There are no facilities (restrooms) on the trails in the Sam Houston National Forest so make sure you take care of business before arriving. Pets must remain on a leash at all times and this trail is for foot traffic only. No motorized vehicles or bicycles. Even though it’s hot, wear light weight long pants to prevent contact with poison ivy, sumac or whatever when hiking. Bring binoculars, sunscreen and water.
